In the neighborhoods of our state capitol, surveillance cameras sit watching atop telephone poles. Directly outside of residents’ homes, the cameras can even see inside bedrooms and living rooms with just the approval of the city’s technology official. Lansing is not alone in its disregard for citizens’ privacy. Cities around the country and around the world are engaging in mass surveillance. This is a trend that must be challenged and stopped immediately.
