Oh, Citizens United v. FEC. I haven’t heard so many people bitch about a Supreme Court decision since Bush v. Gore. Bush v. Gore had explicit partisan implications and the kvetching was as polarized as you would expect. Citizens United, on the other hand, wasn’t a partisan decision. So why, generally, is the left so upset about it, while the right is pleased?

Unless you’ve been living in a hut in the mountains and completely cut off from society all summer, you’ve undoubtedly been exposed to some mention of the debate currently going on in Washington about health insurance reform. It seems to have permeated every conversation, every television station, and every type of print media. It’s everywhere.

Kombucha is an increasingly popular fermented tea drink which is touted for its supposed health benefits, tastes a bit like fruity beer, and will set you back between three and four dollars a bottle. Fortunately, you can make it yourself for a fraction of the cost. The process seems a bit gross at first, but there’s something empowering in being able to make something yourself and save money. Besides, handling something as disgusting as a SCOBY (see below) appeals to the eight-year-old that lives in all of us.
